Moving averages — trend on a line
Describe a moving average as noise removal rather than signal generation Explain why lag is arithmetic and optimisation fits the past Use a moving average as a trend filter and a zone of interest, never as support Explain why crossovers are late and whipsaw in ranges
RSI — momentum, not magic
State what RSI measures and why "overbought" is a description, not a prediction Explain why fading extremes in a trend is the most common losing use Buy dips toward the midline in an uptrend instead of selling highs Treat divergence as a persistent warning rather than an entry signal
MACD & Bollinger Bands — confirmation tools
Recognise MACD as a moving average crossover in oscillator form Explain why Bollinger Bands measure volatility rather than direction Use the squeeze as a signal of coming expansion without inferring direction Limit yourself to two indicators answering genuinely different questions
Fibonacci — what it is and what it is not
Explain why Fibonacci levels work through order clustering, not natural mathematics Recognise that dense clustering also makes them prime sweep targets Draw from one higher-timeframe swing and never redraw to fit price Require structure at a level and place the stop from structure, not a percentage
ATR — measuring what normal looks like
Define true range and explain why it accounts for gaps Reject any stop that sits inside 1x ATR as being inside noise Express stops in ATR multiples to compare instruments honestly Detect a changed volatility regime and adjust stop and size accordingly
