Head & Shoulders — the classic reversal
Read a head and shoulders as a lower high followed by a lower low Wait for the neckline break rather than anticipating from the right shoulder Ignore cosmetic symmetry and judge the pattern by its structural sequence Decline a valid pattern when the required stop makes the ratio unworkable
Double tops, double bottoms and triple patterns
Explain why a triple top is structurally weaker than a double top Anticipate the sweep at equal highs and lows and buffer the stop accordingly Identify pattern completion at the close beyond the intervening low Separate recognising a pattern from deciding to trade it
Triangles — the market coiling
Read a triangle as volatility compression rather than as a directional signal Take directional bias from the higher timeframe, not the triangle type Require displacement on the break instead of a marginal close Avoid trading near the apex, where the tight stop is the trap
Flags, pennants and wedges — continuation moves
Recognise all three as one sequence: impulse, shallow pause, continuation Measure retracement depth and reject anything beyond 61% Verify the impulse is genuine — large bodies, structural break, few candles Project the flagpole as a first objective rather than a promise
